On Tuesday Seathorne Judo club held its annual presentation night with a night of fun for both junior and senior club members, including the final of the senior ladder league. Ethan Steele, a member of Skegness and Seathorne judo clubs, recently
competed in 2 major Judo competitions. The first was the Bushido Za-Zen Junior
Nationals, held at High Wycombe judo centre, where Ethan won all of his
contests, all by ippon, to take the Gold medal. The second competition was the
Southend International Open, with competitors from all over Europe competing. In
his weight category, U38kg, was some strong competition, including the Welsh
national champion, whom Ethan beat. Ethan had a total of four fights winning
three all by Ippon, only losing in the final to take the silver medal, a
fantastic result in such a prestigious competition.
On Sunday members of Skegness and Seathorne Judo clubs attended the annual
Bushido National Judo competition at High Wycombe Judo Centre, five members
entered and returned with seven medals between them. John Midgley contested both
the U66kg class, taking 3rd place, and the U81kg open class gaining a 4th place
bronze medal. U90kg class was contested by Adrian Bignell who, despite only
losing one fight finished with the bronze medal in 3rd place, he also fought in
the U100kg open, where he finished in 2nd place for silver. In the U100kg class
club Sensei Mark Mason won all his fights, all by ippon, to take the gold medal.
Dean Harmston contested the 100+kg class to finish 3rd with the bronze
medal.
The star of the competition was reserved for a club junior, Warren
Grace, who despite only being 15 fought in the U81kg class, which apart from
him, was entirely made up of senior dan grades, although he lost all his fights
in this class, he put up a more than creditable performance, scoring points in
half of his fights. Warren also contested the U18 years open, again he was the
youngest competitor, losing only one of his fights to take the silver medal. Due
to a sterling effort and an outstanding result Warren was awarded his junior dan
grade, only the second achieved by Seathorne Judo club.
On Sunday members of Skegness and Seathorne Judo clubs attended the local
area grading at Gainsborough leisure centre, with every local Judoka gaining at
least one grade higher. The full results were: Juveniles (U8 years);Ethan
Warhurst – red 1 white, David Spawage – red 3 white, Borys Chojnacky – red 2
yellow an increase of 3 complete grades after winning all his contests all by
ippon, Juniors: Swayle Gillett - white 3 yellow, Nicole Meese – yellow, Bradley
Meese – yellow 1 orange, Jake Meese and Thomas Lemmon – yellow 2 orange.

On Sunday members of Skegness and Seathorne Judo clubs entered a team
competition, held at Gainsborough leisure centre. The teams were made up on the
day with each competitor fighting people of a similar grade and standard. There
was some excellent judo on display and all the local competitors winning medals,
Bronze was won by, Borys Chojnacki, Bradley Meese, Ethan Steele, Patrick Fox and
Natalie Birkett. The Gold medal winners were: Nicole and Jake Meese and Dean
Harmston.

Members of Skegness and Seathorne Judo clubs attended the local area
grading at Gainsborough leisure centre last Sunday and all members were
successfully promoted. Full results are: Juveniles (u8’s) : David Spowage – red
1 white, Borys Chojnacki – red 2 white, Thomas Shaw – red 3 white, Nicole Meese-
red 2 yellow; Juniors: Patrick Fox and Swayle Gillett – white 2 yellow, Jake
Meese - white 3 yellow, Bradley Meese, Thomas Lemmon and Ella Noble – yellow,
Alfie Adams – yellow 2 orange, William Midgeley – orange 2 green, Lewis Grace –
brown 1 black, Katie Marsden – brown 2 black and Warren Grace – brown 3 black.
In addition to the grading results club members Ethan Steele and Lewis
Grace were also earned their section leader award.

On Sunday members of Skegness and Seathorne Judo club attended a weight
competition at held at Market Warsop, we had a total of 10 competitors and all
returned with a medal an outstanding club performance. Girls red belt division
was contested by Nicole Meese who managed to win the Bronze medal, Rio Manson
was our only other female entrant beating all the competition to take the Gold,
boys lightweight category had 2 local entrants: Bradley Meese who won Gold and
Patrick Fox who gained a Bronze in his first weight competition, middle weight
boys was fought by Jake Meese who, like his brother, also won Gold, boys
heavyweight division had three local entrants: Ethan Steele – Gold, Alfie Adams
– Silver and Swayle Giillet – Bronze a clean sweep. The senior competition was
entered by Mark Mason and Dean Harmston, Mark winning all his bouts to take Gold
and Dean returning with Bronze.
Members of Skegness and Seathorne Judo clubs took part in the recent age
category competition at Gainsborough Leisure Centre. There were a total of eight
local entrants and they returned with 1 Gold and 2 Silver medals. Girls U8’s was
contested by Nicole Meese who, in her first solo competition, performed
brilliantly to come 2nd and take the silver. Boys U8’s was Thomas Shaw’s group
he fought admirably, also in his first solo competition winning 1 of his fights.
The largest entry group was the boys U10’s with a total of 16 entrants, of which
4 were local: Bradley Meese, Jake Meese, Swayle Gillett and Alfie Adams, of
these our star performer was Alfie who only lost out in the final to take the
silver. Boys U14’s was entered by Lewis Grace, who despite being the smallest
and one of the younger entrants, performed admirably. The final competitor was
Katie Marsden who fought in the girls U14’s and won all of her fights to take
the gold, a stunning performance.

Skegness Judo club are pleased to confirm that Sensei Malcolm Sawyer has been promoted to 7th dan Judo by the Bushido Za-Zen International Martial Arts Society, this was awarded at the recent Easter convention held at Skegness Grammar School and is in recognition of Malcolm’s continued dedication and commitment to Judo.

Members of Skegness and Seathorne Judo Clubs attended the local area grading at Gainsborough Leisure Centre recently and all performed brilliantly, full results are: Juveniles; Nicole Meese – red 3 white, Juniors: Bradley Meese and Swayle Gillett – white 1 yellow, Jake Meese – white 2 yellow, Alfie Adams – white 3 yellow, Carter Manson – yellow, Ben Delieu – orange 2 green, Shanelle Wood – green 2 blue, Lewis Grace – brown, Seniors: Aleksander Grozdzies – yellow, and Jordan Dance – orange.
At the annual Bushido Za-zen dinner and dance area Sensei Malcolm Sawyer was presented with the Ron Jeffery Memorial Shield which was awarded for Malcolm’s outstanding 50 years commitment to martial arts.

On Saturday four members of Skegness and Winthorpe Judo clubs attended a team
competition in Kirkby –in –Ashfield, the teams being made up of attendees on the
day. For three juniors this was their first experience of competitive judo and
they performed extremely well. Bradley Meese won one of his three contests and
came away with a Bronze medal, similarly his sister Nicole Meese won Bronze and
also one one of her three contests. Bragging rights in this family, this time,
however were reserved for older brother Jake, who won all three of his contests,
including beating his brother, to take the gold medal. Our senior competitor,
Dean Harmston, produced an outstanding performance on the day winning two of his
three contests, all against experienced dan grades (Black Belts) including a
spectacular win using Harai – Goshi to score ippon. Dean also came away with the
Gold medal.

league winner, sponsored by The Royal Oak, Winthorpe – for the second
consecutive year Adrian Bignell; Judoka of the month award, sponsored by Fresh
Fitness, for December was awarded to Tommy Lemmon; best newcomer was Carter
Manson, best Uke was awarded to Lewis Grace.

On Sunday three members of Skegness and Seathorne Judo clubs entered the Bushido
Za-zen International Judo Competition, held at High Wycombe Judo centre. With
only three entrants they managed to gain a total of five medals: 2 gold and 3
bronze. Mark Mason achieved 2 gold medals, the first in the U100kg class winning
all of his contests by ippon, the second was won in a much stiffer competition:
the dan grade open, where he also beat all the competition. Dean Harmston
achieved 2 bronze medals, his first was also in the U100kg class where his
losses were only to dan grade opposition, and his second was in the kyu grade
open. Ashley Windle was our final competitor he managed to achieve a bronze
medal in the +100kg class against some very large opposition only losing out to
Dean for a medal in the kyu grade open.

On Sunday members of Skegness and Seathorne Judo clubs attended the area grading
at Gainsborough Leisure centre. There were some outstanding displays of both
Kata and Randori from all entrants with all the local Judoka gaining promotion
by at least one grade, full results are: Juveniles: Thomas Shaw – red 2 white,
Juniors: Carter Manson- white 2 yellow, Will Midgeley – orange, Ben Delieu –
orange, Rhiannon Manson – green 2 blue, Jordan Dance – blue, Lewis Grace – blue
2 brown, Ethan Steele – brown, Katie Marsden – brown 1 black, Warren Grace –
brown 2 black; Seniors: Chris Manson – orange, Dean Harmston, who was unaware
that he was being graded, after 3 years achieved his blue belt.
Adrian Bignell was awarded his Dan grade after evaluation by Sensei Malcolm Sawyer.
There were two stand out performances on the day Ben Delieu in his
first grading reaching junior orange belt, and Ethan Steele gaining his junior
brown belt at only 11 years of age.

On Sunday members of Skegness and Seathorne Judo clubs attended a team
competition at Gainsborough Leisure Centre, the teams were selected on the day
and were made up of 8 members each, ranging in age from 5 years to Seniors, each
team member fighting a suitable opponent from each of the other teams. Our local
judoka performed admirably with 2 contestants being unbeaten in all 5 of their
bouts Will Midgeley and Ethan Steele whose team won the gold medal, also in the
gold medal team was Ben Delieu who, in his first ever competition, won 4 of his
5 contests, only losing to Katie Marsden, a very experienced competitor, who
also won 4 of her 5 fights and was in the team winning the silver medal. Dean
Harmston’s team took the bronze medal despite Dean winning 4 of his 5 fights,
finally John Midgeley won 1 of his 5 fights.

Gainsborough Leisure centre, some members grading for the first time. Full
results and new grades are: Juveniles (under 8 years) Jaydon Parker – Red 1
White, Juniors (8 – 16 years) Luke Gerrard – Orange 2 Green, Rio Manson – Green,
Jordan Dance – Green 3 Blue, Lewis Grace – Blue 1 Brown, Katie Marsden – Brown,
Warren Grace – Brown 1 Black, Luke Speed – Brown 2 Black, Seniors (over 16):
Christopher Manson – Yellow, Kieran Gething – Orange and Ashley Windle –
Blue.
Seathorne Judo Club have awarded the Judoka of the Month to Katie
Marsden, she receives a training top, sponsored by Fresh Fitness of Skegness,
this was awarded due to some outstanding results in her grading, performing some
great techniques, and a great demonstration of Kata assisted by Lewis Grace as
her Uke.

On Sunday 10th May members of the Seathorne and Skegness Judo clubs attended a
junior age competition at Gainsborough Leisure Centre and came away with 1 gold,
3 silver and 1 bronze medals, full results were: U10 boys was contested by Will
Midgeley who performed admirably winning one contest despite being only 8 and by
far the smallest competitor, U12 boys saw two entries, Lewis Grace and Ethan
Steele, Lewis taking Silver only losing to Ethan who took the Gold winning all 5
of his contests, U14 girls was contested by Katie Marsden who won 2 of her 3
contests to take Silver, U14 boys entry, Warren Grace took Silver in this
category losing only in the final only to then go and enter the U16 boys
competition with Jordan Dance, Warren this time taking Bronze and Jordan missing
out on the medals despite only losing 1 of his 3 contests.

Seathorne Judo Club are pleased to report that for the forthcoming year Fresh Fitness of Richmond Drive have agreed to continue to sponsor the Junior Judoka of the month award in the form of a training top, which can be worn under a Judo Gi whilst training, and is awarded, by the club instructors, to the Judoka who has performed especially well or has put in the most effort, and also to sponsor training tops for Senior members of the club. Skegness and Seathorne Judo clubs attended the Junior age competition at Gainsborough Leisure Centre on Sunday and returned with six medals from nine competitors, an outstanding achivement. Boys U10 group was contested by Ethan Steele, who once again won all 7 of his contests to take the Gold medal, girls U14 contestant Samantha Lowis also took the Gold medal winning all her contests. Melissa Gerrard entered girls U12 group and fought brilliantly to take the Silver medal, there were 4 local boys entered into the largest age group U12 boys : Cameron Sloane took Silver with some fantastic techniques in his contests only losing out to the eventual winner by hold down, Ben Owen who took Bronze, despite being injured, Lewis Grace won 3 of his 5 fights, and Kieron Parker, whose birthday the day before made him the youngest in the group. There were 2 entries in boys U14 Warren Grace, who won Bronze and Luke Gerrard.

Skegness Grammar School hosted the annual Easter Bushido Za-Zen martial arts convention with attendees able to improve their skills and techniques in a variety of different arts including: aikido, ju-jitsu, judo, karate, kendo, kobudo, iaido, MMA, tai-chi and self defence. As well as improving their techniques etc three of our local instructors were assessed on their abilities and were graded. Ben Spencer was awarded his 1st Dan (black belt) in Ju-Jitsu, Alan Lowis 1st Dan (black belt) for Judo, and Alex Caitlin 1st Kyu (brown belt) in Kobudo.

Luke Speed achieved his section leaders award and Sean Faggetter was awarded his class leader which both have earned through their hard work throughout the year.
At the Bushido national Judo competition, held at High Wycombe Judo centre, our local clubs were represented by three competitors: Mark Mason, Dean Harmson and Sean Ellis. Mark Mason managed to win two medals: gold in his weight catergory and silver in the dan grade open catergory in which he won 4 of his 5 contests. Dean Harmston, in only his second national competition managed to win the bronze medal in his weight catergory defeating dan grades in the process, Sean Ellis had the hardest group to contest as he was the only kyu grade entrant in a large field, he performed admirably winning one of his three contests.

Judoka of the Month: Jordan Dance .
Recently the club along with Skegness Judo club attended the Bushido Junior National competition, held in High Wycombe Judo Centre. The clubs entered four competitors in different weight classes and returned with three medals, a brilliant result for both clubs. Full results were: Ethan Steele won three of his four contests to take silver, Samantha Lowis also won three of her four fights to also win silver, Sean Faggetter won two of
five contests to take the bronze medal, Cameron Sloane was our fourth entrant in the largest entry group and performed admirably in all his contests but was unable to return with a medal.

On Sunday members of Skegness and Winthorpe Judo clubs attended a team competition held at Gainsborough Leisure Centre and performed extremely well. Gold medallists on the day were: Samantha Lowis, Kizzy Marsden and Sean Faggetter, Silver was awarded to Katie Marsden, 3rd place Bronze medalswere: Cameron Sloane, Brook Salter and Melissa Garrad, 4th place Bronze medals were won by Luke Garrad and Dean Harmston. Although only finishing in the third placed team Cameron Sloane had an outstanding individual perfomance winning every one of his contests.

On Sunday members of Skegness and Winthorpe Judo clubs travelled to Warsop for a weight competition, of the 5 entrants all recieved medals for their efforts. Full results are: Juniors, Samantha Lowis claimed silver after 7 keenly fought contests; Brook Salter, who showed some fine ankle techniques, also took silver; Sean Faggetter took the bronze medal in his weight category; in the Senior contests Dean Harmston took the bronze in both the 100kg class and the open competition whilst Mark Mason took gold medals in both the open competition and the high grades competition, winning all of his contests.
